FCU Thermostat Selection Guide for Hotels and Offices
Select a hotel or office FCU thermostat: check 2-pipe/4-pipe wiring, valve and fan outputs, WiFi options, manuals and sample acceptance before ordering.
A fan coil unit (FCU) thermostat must match the water system, valve actuator, fan-control input and power supply. For a hotel or office project, confirm these electrical requirements first, then select the display, app and project options. Use the checklist below to prepare a sample request for ACMELEC fan coil thermostats.
FCU thermostat wiring: what to confirm before replacement
Collect the fan coil model, its wiring diagram, the valve and fan labels, and a photograph of the existing controller terminals. The same front panel can contain different output configurations. Match the exact ordered version to the equipment diagram before installation; use a qualified installer for electrical work.

2-pipe vs 4-pipe fan coil control
A 2-pipe fan coil uses one water circuit for heating or cooling. Confirm how the project changes between heating and cooling, as well as the valve wiring. A 4-pipe fan coil has separate heating and cooling circuits; the selected thermostat must provide the appropriate control for both circuits.
Pipe type and fan-control type are separate decisions. Selecting a 4-pipe controller does not by itself specify a three-speed or 0–10V fan output. Include both in the sample configuration.
Three-speed relay vs 0–10V fan control
For a three-speed fan, provide the high, medium and low speed wiring requirements. For an EC fan requiring a 0–10V input, request the corresponding signal-output version. A fan's 0–10V requirement does not establish the valve-control requirement: check the valve actuator separately.
AE-5503K and AE-5509K have three-speed or selected 0–10V configurations. Confirm which version is being supplied instead of choosing from the model name or display alone.
App-controlled FCU thermostats and building management options
Optional Smart Life WiFi versions of AE-5503K and AE-5509K add app control. Specify the WiFi version when requesting a sample and test it on the intended site network. Include account ownership and handover requirements if a hotel operator or property manager will manage the devices.
If the building needs Modbus, Zigbee, key-card or window-contact functions, request confirmation of the exact hardware and firmware configuration. WiFi availability does not establish support for these other functions. For BMS integration, provide the required communication interface and control points for review before selecting a sample.

The manuals and linked product pages are the reference for model specifications. Ask for the wiring documentation for the exact ordered configuration if your fan, valve or communication requirements differ from the illustrated version.
Hotel and office sample acceptance checklist
- Record the configuration. Keep the sample model, wiring version, supply, pipe system, valve type and fan output with the project documents.
- Check local operation. Test supported heating or cooling demand, the corresponding valve response and the selected fan-control method on the actual equipment.
- Check the requested smart functions. For a WiFi sample, verify app pairing and control on the project network. For an agreed BMS version, validate the agreed points with the integrator.
- Test project-specific behaviour. Include key-card or window-contact operation only where supplied, and document the required behaviour after a power or network interruption.
- Approve the production specification. Record the accepted wiring and functions, display choice, quantity, destination market, logo and packaging requirements before production confirmation.

Common buyer questions
What is the difference between FCU and VRF thermostats?
FCU thermostats control fan coil units, valves and fan outputs, while VRF thermostats communicate with brand-specific VRF air conditioner systems.
Do FCU projects need wiring confirmation?
Yes. Confirm the pipe system, valve voltage and wiring, fan output, power supply and exact controller version before choosing a sample.
Can I use an app to control a fan coil thermostat?
Optional Smart Life WiFi versions of AE-5503K and AE-5509K support app control. Specify the WiFi version and confirm the electrical configuration before ordering.
Does a 0–10V fan thermostat also provide 0–10V valve control?
The fan signal and valve outputs are separate selection points. A 0–10V fan requirement does not establish the valve-control type; confirm both for the ordered version.
